Hello Neighbors,

Playground Renovation Update April 2014

The long-awaited renovation of the Joe DiMaggio Playground is scheduled to begin in 2015. The playground will have 50 new trees, 12,000 s.f. of planted area, a completely new children’s play area in the center of the park far from streets and traffic, new tennis courts and a resurfaced and renovated sports court area with more basketball hoops. It will connect directly to the new North Beach Library via the former Mason Street, now the Mason Green pedestrian way, and to the North Beach Pool and Clubhouse. The renovated playground will provide better facilities for kids and families, for seniors and young adults and teens. It will beautify and enhance North Beach for residents and visitors, for park users and all who live nearby.
Unfortunately, the heated construction climate has caused costs to rise just as we are starting construction. In order to avoid and cuts or compromises, the Friends of Joe DiMaggio Playground is working with the San Francisco Parks Alliance to raise $300,000 towards the cost of the project.  This is a crucial time for the playground as the infrastructure that goes in now will be in place for years to come.   Please donate to Friends of Joe DiMaggio Playground renovation fund through the San Francisco Parks Alliance.  Your tax-deductible gift will enrich the lives of thousands of families and children.

Please contact to discuss recognition for corporate, foundation and larger donations.

Here are some recent proposed renderings from the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.
